Worcestershire Martial Arts does not automatically recognise or transfer grades awarded in other martial arts. Each martial art has its own techniques, syllabus, grading requirements and technical standards.Previous experience is always welcome and may help you progress, but it does not automatically entitle you to an equivalent grade within our school.
We generally recognise grades awarded through legitimate ITF Taekwon-Do schools and organisations, subject to verification where appropriate. However, recognition of an existing grade does not automatically establish readiness for the next grading. All students are expected to demonstrate the technical knowledge, ability and standards required by Worcestershire Martial Arts before being considered for promotion.Where there are differences in syllabus or previous training standards, additional training may be required.
Grades from other Taekwon-Do styles, including WT/Kukkiwon and other non-ITF systems, are not automatically transferred or recognised as equivalent ITF grades.Although these martial arts share some similarities, their technical requirements, patterns, terminology, sparring systems and grading structures can differ considerably.Students transferring from another style will be assessed individually and will need to learn and demonstrate the appropriate ITF Taekwon-Do syllabus.Any grade awarded or recognised within WMA will be at the instructor's discretion and based upon the student's demonstrated competence and relevant grading requirements.
Not necessarily.Students with previous Kickboxing experience will be assessed against the Worcestershire Martial Arts Kickboxing syllabus. We will consider your existing knowledge, technical ability, experience and understanding of the requirements for your current grade.Where your skills meet our standards, your existing grade may be recognised. Where there are gaps in knowledge or technique, you may be required to complete additional training or an appropriate assessment.Belt recognition is not automatic and is determined by the instructor.
No. Grading is based upon readiness, technical competence, knowledge, consistency and the ability to meet the required standards.Students must demonstrate the necessary skills and understanding before being invited or permitted to grade.Previous martial arts experience does not automatically exempt students from our grading requirements. We believe that a belt should represent the standard a student can consistently demonstrate, rather than simply the amount of time they have trained.
Yes. Worcestershire Martial Arts welcomes enquiries from individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), neurodivergent students and those with additional physical, learning, sensory or communication needs. We recognise that every student is different and that a diagnosis or disability does not, by itself, determine someone's ability to participate in martial arts.We aim to provide a supportive environment while maintaining appropriate safety, supervision and coaching standards for everyone.
Potentially, yes. We consider each prospective student individually. We ask parents and carers to contact us before booking a trial so that we can discuss the child's needs, previous experiences, communication preferences and any reasonable adjustments that may help them participate. Our classes are structured group sessions, and we will consider how best to support the student within that environment.A diagnosis of autism, ADHD or another condition does not automatically prevent a student from participating.
We welcome enquiries from students with physical disabilities and mobility differences.Participation will depend on the individual's needs, the activities involved and whether suitable adjustments can be made safely and reasonably within our facilities and coaching arrangements. We are happy to discuss possible adaptations before a trial.
We understand that students learn and respond differently.Where appropriate, our instructors may use demonstrations, clear instructions, additional processing time, modified activities or other reasonable adjustments. However, martial arts involve physical contact, movement, equipment and other students, so it is essential that participants can engage safely with the activities, with suitable support where reasonable. We encourage parents and carers to communicate openly with us so that we can consider the most appropriate approach.
Our regular classes are group coaching sessions rather than one-to-one tuition. While instructors provide individual feedback and support during training, we cannot guarantee continuous individual supervision throughout a group class.
Having SEND or a disability is not, in itself, a reason to refuse participation. We consider each person's circumstances individually, including what reasonable adjustments may be possible.Where we identify genuine concerns about whether we can safely and appropriately meet a prospective student's needs within our particular class structure, we will discuss those concerns and consider available options.Where appropriate, we may suggest alternative coaching arrangements or specialist provision. Our priority is to provide an inclusive environment that is safe, supportive and appropriate for all participants.
Yes, please tell us about any information that may affect safe participation or help us support you or your child. This may include relevant medical conditions, injuries, disabilities, allergies, learning needs or other support requirements.Information will be handled sensitively and in accordance with our privacy and safeguarding procedures. We encourage you to contact us before booking if you would like to discuss anything in confidence.
Yes. At Worcestershire Martial Arts, competition is an integral part of our martial arts development and belt progression system.Students are expected to participate in competitions as part of their ongoing training and progression through the grades. Competition provides valuable opportunities to apply techniques, develop confidence, build resilience, test skills under pressure and gain experience beyond the regular training environment. We recognise that not every student aspires to become an elite competitor or win medals. Our emphasis is on participation, effort, personal development and learning rather than competitive results alone.Students are supported and prepared for competition according to their age, experience and ability, with appropriate consideration given to individual needs and reasonable adjustments.Although students are welcome to train for fitness, enjoyment and personal development, those wishing to progress through our belt system must understand that competition participation forms part of our grading requirements.
