Welcome to the 4th Kup Red Stripe Syllabus – the stage where your techniques, awareness, and tactical understanding begin to show the qualities of an advanced student. This programme is designed for students who have passed their 5th Kup (Blue Belt) grading and are now preparing for promotion to 4th Kup (Red Stripe). At this point, your performance should show clear intent behind every movement, disciplined control, and a growing ability to apply Taekwon-Do under pressure. You will now be learning the pattern Joong-Gun, a form that introduces more complex timing, varied stances, and demanding sequences. All previous patterns must be demonstrated with increased accuracy, rhythm, and understanding of purpose. Your line work progresses with new techniques such as L-Stance Inwards Knife-Hand Block, Walking Stance Upwards Elbow Strike, Rear Foot Stance Palm Upward Block, Low Stance Palm Pressing Block, and the dynamic Reverse Turning Kick. These movements require improved coordination, hip control, and posture as you continue refining your execution. In sparring and self-defence, the expectations rise again. You will be assessed on 1-Step Sparring, Free Sparring, and practical Self-Defence, showing strong distance control, disciplined movement, and the ability to apply techniques with confidence and safety. Your power test at this level includes Reverse Turning Kick on the blue board, alongside Inward Knife-Hand or Ridge Hand Strike, demonstrating accuracy, timing, and efficient body mechanics. You will also complete your 4th Kup Korean Theory verbally and in written format, reflecting a growing fluency in Taekwon-Do terminology, stances, and technical vocabulary. This syllabus marks the beginning of your transition toward the senior grades. With focused practice, consistent attendance, and clear attention to detail, you will build the skills required for promotion to Red Stripe and beyond.
