Welcome to the 5th Kup Blue Belt Syllabus – an exciting stage where your technical ability, confidence, and understanding begin to align at a higher level. This programme is for students who have successfully passed their 6th Kup (Blue Stripe) grading and are now preparing for promotion to 5th Kup (Blue Belt). At this stage, you are expected to apply greater precision, fluidity, and control, while demonstrating the maturity and discipline of an intermediate practitioner. You will now be learning the pattern Yul-Gok, which builds on previous forms with more sophisticated coordination, directional changes, and a deeper sense of purpose behind each movement. All previous patterns must also be performed with increasing sharpness and awareness. Your line work will develop further with key techniques such as Walking Stance Front Elbow Strike, Walking Stance Palm Hooking Block Combination, and L-Stance Twin Knife Hand Block. The introduction of the Back Kick requires both explosive power and balance. In sparring and self-defence, your repertoire expands to include 2-Step Sparring 1–4, allowing for more complex combinations and structured responses. Free Sparring and practical Self-Defence continue to test your timing, spatial awareness, and adaptability under pressure. Your power test at this level includes Turning Kick and Back Kick on the blue board, as well as a Palm Strike, demanding refined technique, coordination, and focused execution. You will also complete 5th Kup Korean Theory verbally, showing increased familiarity with Taekwon-Do terminology, stances, and technique names in Korean. This syllabus prepares you for the transition into the advanced grades. With focused training, clear goals, and dedicated practice, you’ll be ready to take the next step in your Taekwon-Do journey.
